- Selangor Pas says betting outlets will not be shut down immediately if it takes power - Commissioner stresses policies must reflect Selangor’s diverse population - Decisions to be made through consultation and democratic consensus Selangor Pas commissioner Datuk Dr Ab Halim Tamuri has assured that the party would not close betting outlets without due process if it were to form the next state government. As reported by New Straits Times, Dr Halim said that Pas would adopt policies suitable for Selangor’s demographic make-up, which differs from the more homogenous populations of states such as Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Perlis. He emphasised that the state’s diverse communities require a balanced and inclusive administrative approach. “For example, in an area where 99% of the residents are Malay, there is no necessity to sell alcohol,” he said. “However, every matter of governance must go through consultation and discussion before any decision is made.” He reiterated that decisions would be reached collectively and in line with democratic principles. Good to know: Dr Halim, who is also the Paya Jaras assemblyman, said claims that Pas would immediately shut down betting outlets were unfounded Addressing doubts about the party’s ability to govern urban regions, he pointed to his own constituency, which covers both urban and rural areas such as Sungai Buloh New Town and Saujana Utama. He said the party aimed to establish a capable and transparent government focused on addressing community needs while respecting the state’s multiracial fabric.
